Car Insurance with a TS10 Traffic Light Offence
Have a Red Light Penalty on Your Licence? We Can Help!
- Specialist insurance for drivers with traffic light offences
- Policies for drivers with multiple driving convictions
- Affordable cover with leading UK insurers
If you’ve run a red light and received TS10 penalty on your licence, you’ll know how difficult it can be to find reasonably priced car insurance. A conviction for the TS10 regulation is now much easier for the authorities to obtain, because so many traffic lights have a camera perched on top of them. That also means that the number of people with points on their licence relating to a failure to observe traffic light signs has risen steadily over the past few years.
Failing to notice a red light would previously not have been documented unless it resulted in an accident or a police officer witnessed it. Now, however, the camera on top of the traffic light is a permanent traffic cop.
Finding Insurance After a Penalty for a Traffic Light Offence
A TS10 is a driving conviction for failing to obey traffic lights. This carries an automatic three penalty points on your licence and a fine. The conviction will stay on your licence for four years, so you will have to declare it when you are applying for insurance during that time.
A TS10 conviction can affect your ability to get insurance and if you can get any quotes from comparison sites, they are likely to be very expensive. But don’t despair – Complete Cover Group can help.
We have a team of highly experienced brokers who have in-depth knowledge of this part of the insurance market. They don’t just find insurance – they use our specialist insurance policies to find the best possible deal for you as an individual.
What is the Penalty for Running a Red Light?
Individual circumstances vary and it may be that it is the only offence you have on your licence, so the damage is limited to three points and a £100 fine. However, you may already have points on your licence for other offences and, if these are still in date, you’ll have to declare them as well. Failure to disclose them may result in your insurance being cancelled.
The penalty for TS10 is the same as for a speeding offence. But remember that if you’re a new driver who has passed their test in the two years prior to the conviction, you’ll get your licence withdrawn if you amass over six penalty points, as will any driver with 12 penalty points within a three-year period. This will result in a “totting up” TT99 conviction.
