Taxi Insurance
We know taxi insurance the way you know your local area. That’s why a quote from us will help you find the affordable route to the right policy.
- Taxi insurance quotes for anywhere in the UK (except Northern Ireland)
- Policies cover private hire, including chauffeur-driven services
- £100,000 legal expenses with every policy
- Flexible payment options
As a cab driver you depend on your vehicle being on the road and fully protected, so getting the right taxi insurance at an affordable price is vital. That can be hard if you have driving convictions on your licence, claims on your record, or work in a high-risk postcode area.
Finding cover for even the most unusual situations is our speciality. We work with leading UK insurers to provide great value policies to taxi drivers who find it difficult to get affordable cover elsewhere, so we can also offer cover for drivers operating in high risk areas, and drivers who’ve previously had an insurance policy cancelled.
Insurance features
Our policies provide cover that includes:
- Cover for your taxi’s radio system, metering equipment and satellite navigation equipment if you have it
- Personal belongings
- Passenger personal effects and luggage
- Taxi fares
Taxi insurance for convicted drivers
We can help convicted drivers find affordable taxi insurance.
If you have points on your licence, or have been banned due to driving convictions, you’ll find that Fare Cover can help you where many other insurers won’t. We help convicted drivers get taxi insurance, so you can get on with doing your job.
You’ll benefit from our extensive knowledge of the taxi insurance industry to access exclusive rates for convicted drivers. Whether your offence was for speeding (SP30 and SP50), drink-driving (DR10), mobile phone offences (CU80), offences that have resulted in a disqualification (TT99) or any other conviction, ask us for a quote.
We’ll also help drivers with non-motoring convictions.
Trying to get affordable taxi insurance with claims on your record?
Drivers with a poor claims history may also struggle to obtain cover at a reasonable price. If you’ve had a few accidents, we can usually obtain rates for drivers in your situation, so call for a no obligation quote.
The difference between private and public hire
Private hire
Can only collect pre-booked passengers or from a taxi rank for hire and reward. Uber drivers are included in this group.
Public hire
Licensed hackney carriages which can be hailed in the street as well as take pre-booked passengers or from taxi ranks. London black cabs fall into the category.
Why taxi insurance can be expensive
Despite being professional drivers there are a few reasons why insuring a taxi may not be as cheap as standard motor insurance:
- Drive more miles than a typical motorist and often in heavily congested areas. This means they are statistically more at risk of having an accident even if they aren’t at fault. This is only amplified when driving in a busy city.
- Likely to have a larger vehicle to carry more passengers.
- May have modifications such a wheelchair access ramp.
- Public liability insurance may be included which protects the driver in the event a claim is made by a passenger.
